Care of bag closers.

Hydraulic oil and automotive oil are commonly used. These will damage the seals and will not properly lubricate the shafts, bearings, and bushings. Only sewing machine oil should be used, and only the proper oil for your machine. Consult us if you have questions.
The next most common preventable damage is from cleanliness. Commonly dirt and lint from bags and sewing thread is collected and pulled through the seals into the machine. Cleaning the needle and feed dog area regularly will help to reduce this damage. Use a good cleaning solvent and a low pressure air hose to clean the area. Please do not blow pressurized air directly on or into the seal.
On portable machines, dropping is very common. Virtually all portable machines should be equipped with a spring balancer to hold the machine in operator readiness and prevent falling or being placed on the floor.
Another major problem area is the sewing thread and needles. Most bag closers have only a single choice for needles. Union special has a wide choice. Whatever your situation, your sewing thread must fit the needles and your application. Nylon, poly, cotton poly, all cotton, 13-4, 12-5, etc. Besides all of these numbers there is a generally a quality difference between manufacturers. There is also a major difference in the number of bags sewn per pound of sewing thread, not to mention down time and rethreading of the machine. Premium quality thread will quickly pay for itself.
